Vlog Club | My Top Five Beauty Products

Some of my blogging buddies and I were chatting recently about the fact that we’d not vlogged for a while.

When you’re not used to speaking in front of a camera, it can feel a little bit daunting and having a *reason* to vlog is definitely a better incentive than just speaking off-the-cuff — particularly if it’s something you don’t feel too confident doing!

We all agreed that it was definitely something we enjoyed and would like to practice more and, as a result, we’ve decided to start a little vlogging club.

Vlog Club is a new monthly link up where some of my friends and I all share a video of our Top Five. The theme changes every month and we’ll each send you off to look at another vlog.

You can then go around in a circle, viewing all of the videos.

This month’s theme is ‘Top Five Beauty Products’.

Aaah beauty products.

We all have our favourites don’t we? Even my boy gravitates towards the same kind of products each time.

I used to be the the kind of girl who loved a shiny new ad campaign. Particularly one that reeled off a load of ‘must have’ new ingredients — retinol, phyto-complex’s, peptides, algae, pro V — and promised younger looking skin, see-your-face-in shiny hair or Persil white teeth.

Oops wrong advert.

These days, I’ve come to realise that the promises are ‘probably’ all a load of old Bosewlox and — particularly as I’ve got older — my impulse buys have become less and less and the range of beauty products that I invest in have become fewer and fewer.

As a result, the ones that I buy regularly are now real firm favourites.

This month’s little vlog post gives a run down of my essential top five beauty products — my go-to must-haves — that I’m never without and that make me feel as though I’m looking my best.

Now, I’m not saying that you must all rush out and buy them — as what works for me may not work for you — but I’m definitely standing by everything I’ve chosen and would highly recommend all five. Have a look and apologies for the unbrushed hair!*

*Note to self: MUST make more of an effort next time!! ;)

This month, I’m sending you to Lucy at Mrs Hs Favourite things. Pop along and have a look at her top five beauty products!

If you vlog and would like to get involved, you can email any of us who have films in the linky box below and we’ll send you the details. We’d love you to join in!

PS — just a quick note to say I’m not being paid in any way, shape or form for this review. These products are genuine favourites and I’ve included them in this vlog because I love them! :)

**Little update — I’ve since found out that Benefit Cosmetics have discontinued Babe Cake — quelle surprise — and there’s also some question over whether Naked Shine have gone bust or been taken over.

Ahh me. Such is life — what was I saying about everything I love being discontinued?! You just couldn’t make it up could you?!!

  1. Caro I love watching you on video!! I’m so glad we’ve done this Vlog Club! That shampoo and conditioner sounds amazing, I’m definitely going to find that in Boots, as I’m pretty sure I’m really damaging my hair with evil shampoos! Also I HATE it when companies discontinue your favourite products, I still can’t get over Jo Malone discontinuing my perfume five years ago!! The bring back Honeysuckle & Jasmine range starts now! ; ) xx

    1. Aww thanks lovely!! Likewise! It’s such a fun thing to do — I’m looking forward to next month’s already! :) Nightmare when things you love are discontinued — it’s happened with my perfume, lipliner, eyeliner, blusher, moisturiser… basically everything I ever use — and love — end up being shelved!! SO annoying!!

  2. You skin looks amazing as does your hair. I too discovered that my hair is much healthier after shifting to a better shampoo even if it does cost more, I actually find I use less. Glad you Vlogged it was great to watch. #twinklytuesday

  3. I’ve been thinking about wrote a blog on this topic for the last week or so but I want to take before and after pictures so haven’t got round to it yet. I’m not brave enough to Vlog yet but enjoyed watching yours! #twinklytuesday

    1. Aaah thanks Becky!! You should try it — honestly! :) I’m still not sure I like watching myself back but I love the whole process — it’s really fun :) Have a go and maybe join our little vlog club? It’s a great way to start :)

  4. What a shame that a couple of those seem to have been discontinued, they sound like great products. I’ve not tried any of these so will have to check some of those out. #twinklytuesday

  5. This is a wonderful idea! However, I’m not sure if I’m confident enough to do the same… need to build up my self-esteem yet before I plunge into Vlogging! Great post! #TwinklyTuesday

  6. I’ve been meaning to try bare minerals for a while now and loads of people are raving about it I think you might have just given me the push to do it thanks! #twinklytuesday

  7. Oh how I’d love to VLog but sadly I wont be able to watch it back so couldn’t even think about editing it, or checking to even see if it works – CRINGE… I may join in after a few vinos though…. (I can’t watch your video yet – bubs is asleep next to me and if I wake him up – well, I’ll simply sob. one for later for me ;-)) #twinklytuesday

    1. Awful isn’t it? I think there’s a conspiracy against me!!! Literally EVERYTHING I ever get hooked on gets canned. SO annoying!! And re the vlogging — I BET you could do it!! Easy to practice when you have a smart phone ;)

  8. I’ve sent Hubby on a mission to Boots to pick me up some Naked Shine (secretly hoping he can’t find it so he has to ask somebody where the naked shine is!). Cannot wait to try it.

Your hair and skin look amazing. You are one beautiful lady. xx

    1. Pfft — hahahaha — I hope he can’t find it either!! Imagine the lady over the tannoy system?! THIS GENTLEMAN’S LOOKING FOR NAKED SHINE!! LOL! Aaah bless you pet — that’s a lovely thing to say. I think I look old and haggard on this film so that’s a lovely thing to read!! :) Thank you so much :)

  9. Caro you’re gorgeous! Love watching vlogs as it’s so nice to ‘see’ bloggers. Great top 5 products. I’m a bit of a no frills Nivea sort of girl, I love the stuff. I must have a go at this! Mwah xx

  10. Your braver than me, I think I shall stick to blogging for the forseeable future as I dont like watching myself on film. #TwinklyTuesday

  11. I love bare minerals it’s fab. I tried the naked shine stuff when I had my hair keratin-treated (never again, poor hairs) but it didn’t do anything for me – maybe I should have tried the rinse ans repeat. I’ve had cr@ppy greaseball hair for yonks as well, maybe I’ll try it again…
Love the vlog, wish I was a)brave enough b) could think of anything to vlog about! #twinklytuesday

    1. Bare Minerals IS fab isn’t it? And re the vlogging — join in one months and see if you like it! :) The beauty of the vlog club is the theme is set so you don’t have to think of something to talk about — just ramble on about the topic for the month! :)

  12. Great vlog! So brave of you – and as you look so great I’m sure lots of people will be interested in the products. Great tips too – I have been using SLS free stuff for a while, but like you have found it to be very expensive. I will definitely be taking a look at Naked Shine products. Voting done :) #TwinklyTuesday

  13. Wow! This is brave and I love the concept behind it. You’ll just about see a photo of me and no way am I confident enough to post a video! Extra good luck with your new linkie :) xx #TwinklyTuesday

  14. Such a wonderful blog! You are great and so easy to watch on camera. I’m a huge fan of Bareminerals too as I can’t be bothered with strobing (what even is that and who on earth has the time?!). I had no idea about the awful chemicals in shampoo and toothpaste! Horrible! Will be switching pronto.
    xx

  15. Oooh I love this linky! How very exciting. I love your blog, funny you talk about shampoo I have recently just done a blog on not using shampoo, using an alternative. X

  16. I’m off down’t Boots now for that shampoo! I do like a good lather and I do like a nice kind shampoo, so best of both there. You look fab in the vlog, so those products must be doing their job #welljel #twinklytuesday

  17. Yikes! Sounds like I need to invest in a new shampoo. My hair is split to f**k. Sulphates could be why (nothing to do with the hairdresser every six weeks at all) ;-)
    #twinklytuesdays

    1. Honestly — I’ve noticed a massive difference!! Also, if I didn’t use a conditioner with my old regular shampoo my hair would feel like WOOL!! Now, I could *almost* get away with not using conditioner. The shampoo really is that good :)

  18. Wow! I’m impressed! You are such a natural infront of the camera! I’m so camera shy, it’s bad enough having my photo taken, let alone being videoed! (Is videoed a word?!) You have got me interested in the Bobbi Brown rouge – I am such a sucker for make up! I love the Neal’s Yard mineral makeup range – I developed an allergy to my usual makeup a couple of years ago and everything I had used for years suddenly made my eyes stream! Disaster! When I found the Neal’s Yard products, my problems were solved! Makes me wonder what horrible yuk was in my old make up!! Thanks for sharing xx

  19. What a brilliant idea to start a vlog club! I’m yet to appear in front of a camera. The thought of it both excites me and makes me really nervous. What’s strange is that I wouldn’t mind strangers watching it, but the idea of my family and friends watching them terrifies me! I love this benefit product! I’m so sad its been discontinued. I didn’t know either! I’m excited to check out the other vlogs! :-D x

  20. Your make-up in the video looks so lovely Caro. I need to make more of an effort. I like watching vlogs, but I always completely freeze up in front of the camera, so it won’t be for me just yet! x #TwinklyTuesday

  21. You are very brave vlogging, I could not bring myself to do it but its great you have a club going! I wish companies would give you more warning when they change ranges, beauty essentials are so personal it can be really difficult to find replacements! I am just on may way over to vote too xx #TwinklyTuesday

    1. Not brave pet ;) It’s quite a fun thing to do when you get going!! Honestly ;) I didn’t enjoy the first time but now I’m quite liking the fact that my blog reader can hear my voice :) Although that may not be a good thing!!! ;) Thanks SO much xx

  22. All sounds fantastic, I have used Bare Minerals before but I’m intrigued by the cake liner, I will have to have a look for something similar. #TwinklyTuesday x

    1. I had a look earlier and Laura Mercier looks like my next purchase for the cake liner. It seems like a lot to shell out but it lasts for YEARS!!!! I’ve had the benefit one for at least 6 or 7!! ;)

  23. I’ve got an urge to rush to Boots and top up my bathroom cupboard. I love products but I have cut down on them too in recent years. They seem so expensive when there’s small people to buy stuff for, but every mum needs a treat once in a while. I am going to check out that range of shampoos and conditioners. I first read about SLS in wedding mags before I got hitched to Mr TB – they use it in carpet cleaner too! Blah! #TwinklyTuesday

  24. Give Liz Earle a try, it may seem expensive but for beauty use you need hardly anything. Great to know there’s a cheaper alternative for shampoo. I’m a BM fan too I prefer original, but only because the coverage is better. Have you used bareSkin yet? two drops and that’s my foundation done! look forward to more posts #twinklytuesday

  25. I love watching your blogs and getting to find out about new beauty recommendations is a bonus. It’s so true about sticking with your trusty old faithful a as you get older. #twinklytuesdays

  26. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with beauty products but I like the idea of getting into vlogs. Great job and while I’m not quite there yet, I’ll definitely use some of the tips. #TwinklyTuesday

    1. It’s SUCH a fun thing to do Rob! When you decide to have a go — come and join in with us on the vlog club :) It will be other topics like favourite books, TV programmes, films etc — not just girlie topics :)

    1. Gosh — me TOO!! I absolutely LOVE the stuff!! My number 1 fave makeup product :) I had a quick look after finding that Benefit had discontinued the Babe cake and there are lots on the market now :) Laura Mercier Tightline looks like my next purchase ;)

  27. You’re so natural in front of the camera and your hair looks great brushed or not! I would love to join your group and have a go at doing another vlog but I’m struggling to find time just to write at the moment let along edit videos! I’ll definitely check out some of the other vlogs though. #TwinklyTuesday

  28. I love vlogging! I’ve done already a couple of my favourites for the month! Can I join your club? I have done my June and July Favourites too. Although I incorporated a favourite related to my girls too so they are not all beauty products. I love watching these type of videos so I can try new products too ;-) xx
    #twinklytuesday

    1. Aah thanks so much lovely!! It’s a weird concept isn’t it?! I’m still not 100% convinced that I’m cut out for vlogging but I’m really enjoying it!! :) Wholly recommend the Bare Minerals — such a great product! xx

  29. Thank you for the vlog. Now, something I didn’t know. The evil SLS! I will be trying the Naked Shine shampoo the next time I’m at boots. It sounds amazing! & That eyeliner. The cake benefits. I will be having a look too! #TwinklyTuesday

  30. I don’t have much of beauty products hehe. I think I stopped buying most of it when I started looking into what is testing on animals and what is not tested on animals, so that doesn’t leave me with much in a supermarket. :p
If you have any tips or suggestions on places to get products that aren’t tested on animals please let me know! :D

I hardly know what foundation is… that’s how bad I am! haha

  31. This is the first vlog of yours that I’ve seen and I loved it! You have a very soothing voice :) I use the same bareMinerals colour and totally agree, it’s so lovely to have finally found a shade with enough of a yellow tone. One day I’ll be brave enough to vlog too perhaps :) Mim x #twinklytuesday

      1. It really came across that you were enjoying it which is brilliant – I’ll try and join in at some point – although I only have an iPhone to film on so that would be ‘interesting’! x x

  32. Yay! I love seeing my lovely pal Caro on video. You’re so fab. Brilliant product recommendations. I love the fact that you’ve chosen very natural products. I really want to try Bare Minerals and I use Naked shampoo on Little Miss H but I think I need to try it on my hair too. Brilliant video lovely. Hugs Mrs H xxxx #TwinklyTuesday #VlogClub

  33. I do so love that you’re vlogging. It lets me hear the voice behind the (writer’s) voice, if that makes any sense. Thanks for being an ever wonderful and patient #TwinklyTuesday co-host.

  34. Yay I’m so excited about this. Can’t wait to join in. How long is the Linky open for? I’m in Spain for the rest of the week and the wifi is too slow to upload YouTube vids… Xxx
