Room For a Little One campaign with Silentnight

A few week’s ago we were asked if we’d like to take part in the Room For a Little One campaign with Silentnight, which involved choosing something to revamp the boys bedroom, with the focus on their beds.

Now, the boys’ room hasn’t really changed a great deal since they were born.

I shared a little nursery tour last year and apart from a couple of new bits and pieces, things are looking pretty much the same.

A couple of years ago, I’d spotted the most lovely childrens’ bedding sets from a company called Cologne and Cotton. Grassy green and gorgeous cobalt blue, with graphic trains on the one set and quirky illustrated vehicles on the other.

I loved them because they perfectly matched the book cover prints I made when the twins were born, so these are what I chose to give their bedroom a little facelift.

Whilst we were thinking about making changes — and giving the boys’ room a little revamp — I thought it was also the perfect time to get their star book ledges from Great Little Trading Co up on the wall.

We are so proud to be part of the GLTC family this year and are on the testing team for 2016. The star shelves are the first thing we’ve chosen to roadtest.

Now, I’m not sure about anyone else’s kids but my two seem to collect a wealth of paraphernalia in — and around — their beds.

Very often we’ll go in to check them at night, to find them surrounded by books and toys — with a sippy cup precariously balanced on the back edge of the cot.

I’d thought how nice it would be to give them a place for all these treasures; a dedicated space for the drinks cup, plus room for all the essential reading material that a little boy may need when he wakes up.

These little shelves are perfect.

Just the right size to fit above the headboard of a cot and shallow enough that my tiny boys won’t bang their head’s, if they stand up a little too quickly in the middle of the night!

They’re a great addition to the twins’ room — a bargain at just £23 and beautifully made too; really lovely and chunky.

I can imagine that the star shelves would  look fantastic hung in a group — perhaps with framed artwork standing up in them — but for my littles just one little shelf, hung above each cot, offers the perfect solution to a good night’s sleep.

No more rolling over onto a pile of books or being rudely awaken by a sippy cup landing on their heads in the middle of the night.

With their lovely new bedding and clever little shelves, my little men are sure to sleep soundly.

  1. What beautiful taste in decor you have! Just the perfect pieces to create a soothing, harmonious space! Loved this post!

  2. I live this room, it’s perfect! I’d love to do my little boys room but it’s the biggest in the house and will take quite a bit of work! x

    1. Thanks Ally :) I’d say paint his room white and let the colour come from his toys and accessories. It;s the simplest way to give a big room a quick fix and white — with pops of colour — works SO well for a little one’s room :)

  3. Those sets are just lovely, perfect amount of print. My kids are dreadful for beds full of treats for me to remove once asleep, I think these little shelves work perfectly.

  4. aww your little ones are too cute! and I am loving those shelfs! I need some better storage for the girls, they hoard “crap” all under their beds and its soooo annoying lol

  5. Love their room it’s lovely :) need to get around to decorating my little ones room, the bedding is amazing 2 I’ll definitely be checking it out…. thanks hun xx

  6. Sleeping babes and a gorgeous nursery … you know how to tug on my heartstrings!! I adore the bedding. Such fab colours. And those little shelves??!! My boys have ‘treasure’ shelves, too. I have to regularly clean them out though as they collect the most random things and there’s only so many stones and leaves I can stand in the house ;)

    1. I’ve had my eye on that bedding for SO long. Even BEFORE I had children of my own!! SO lovely that it’s now in our nursery!! And yep — the treasure shelves are getting more and more full as the days are going on!! I had to confiscate a couple of stones they’d brought back from the allotment last week that actually turned out to be potatoes!!

  7. We’re halfway through updating Noah’s bedroom and I’ve really enjoyed it. I think freshening up your home can be good for the sole, I just wish we could pay someone to do the freshening up for us!! The bedding looks gorgeous, lovely, bright and fresh xxx

    1. Aaah I know JUST what you mean chick. We’ve always done all of our home improvements. The only thing we draw the line at is plumbing and electrics but we’ve always done all the rest ourselves. I’d absolutely LOVE to get someone in to do it all!! Just once even!!
