New year, new bed

Vi-Spring Shetland Double divan

Before Christmas, I wrote about preparing for overnight guests and creating a little welcome basket for visitors.

Although we gave one of our guest rooms a little makeover recently — with some lovely new wallpaper and bedding — one of the things that the room still desperately needs is a new bed.

People used to come and stay with us and would often comment on what a good night’s sleep they’d had. But recently there have been more grumbles and moans, than compliments.

Possibly — due to the fact that the mattress is now 20 years old and has had to endure 4 house moves. I think the poor old thing had come to the end of it’s life and really needs replacing.

Thankfully, the January sales are in full swing already and this is the perfect time of year to snap up a new bed or mattress!

If you’re going to invest in a new bed, this is definitely the time to do it; I was having a little look at the Furniture Village website yesterday and they’ve got some gorgeous looking beds and divans for really reasonable prices.

Plus they’ve been running a Christmas Countdown.  It features a cool, interactive, animated house which gives lots of handy ‘homestyle’ tips and also the opportunity to win lots of fabulous prizes; including this beautiful, sunburst inspired, Ondatta mirror. It has such a retro feel and would make an amazing centrepiece for a room.

New year, new bed… and a new mirror!

I think a brand new bed is just the thing our guestroom needs.

A good night’s sleep is a precious commodity — especially when you’ve got very young children — but thanks to the fab early-bird offers at Furniture Village, it won’t cost a fortune.

Better be quick!

The January sales are such a fab time for big purchases, like beds, aren’t they? Hopefully if we get a new mattress for the spare room, it will stop my dad moaning!! ;) Happy new year! x

We definitely need a new bed soon too… but our main bedroom rather than a guest one! It’s definitely come to the end of its natural life!
I love the idea of a welcome basket too!

My girls had to endure awful old beds for years, I felt kind of guilty about getting rid of them because they were still servicable but I gave in eventually and they were much happier! Bedtime comfort is so important :)

      I totally agree — you can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep!! ;)

It took me ages to find the right bed and mattress. My back and legs used to ache with my old mattress and the springs used to stick in my ribs. The mattress I’ve got now is perfect but I need a new bed frame, so will pop over to have a look at this website. Thank you.

I totally understand about feeling uncomfortable in bed! We recently got a new mattress for our own bed and it’s made the world of difference. A good night’s sleep makes a happy girl :)

We desperately need a new mattress for our bed. We’ve needed one for about 3 years so that is three years of back and neckache I have had to endure!x

Yes — I can certainly sympathise with you Sian. I suffer really badly with my back too — thankfully we have a really good mattress on our own bed and that’s made the world of difference!

We got a new bed last year, although that seems like ages away saying last year instead of this year (2015!) and it has a really good mattress on. It is sooo nice to have a decent bed to sleep on. We don’t like staying at my Mother in laws house as she mattress are sooo uncomfy and I struggle to sleep and wake up very sore. Then she moans as we don’t stay often….think a new matress is in order don’t you!

Ohmyword, I agree! We had a new mattress on our own bed quite recently and the difference it’s made is amazing! I think — if we don’t ever sleep in our spare beds — we probably don’t realise just how uncomfortable they can be!! I think our guest bed is in desperate need!! ;) Hope you’re MIL replaces hers too :) xx

We haven’t got a new bed, but have just re-vamped ours with new bedding/throws/cushions. It’s made such a difference to the room! Totally in love with that mirror – definitely what my bedroom needs! xx

Aah I bet it looks amazing!!! I’m so naughty for new cushions — love them — my husband despairs about me!! ;)

I’ve been looking around for a good, sturdy bed for my son because it’s time he got a ‘big boy bed’. I will definitely check out Furniture Village. The ones on the picture seem like a good fit for my ideas for his big boy room!
