It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas with Beefayre Candles

As well as decorating the house for Christmas, I’ve been burning some amazing scented candles recently so, as well as looking festive, it’s beginning to smell a lot like Christmas too.

Orange, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove — these are the kind of aromas I associate with this time of year. The sweet fragrance of mulled wine, gingerbread and zesty clementines are a dead giveaway that Christmas is just around the corner.

The candles I’m burning at the moment are by a company called Beefayre; I came across them in the summer and they have some really lovely things.

As their name suggests, they produce products for the home and body inspired by bees and nature.

Their candles are made with natural plant wax — rather than petroleum based — and blended with pure essential oils. They’re all sold in little glass votives too — everything from tiny tea-light sized ones to  a chunky 3 wick version.

I can’t quite put into words just how amazing they smell!! They give off such a pure, fresh scent, that quite literally fills the house. It’s not cloying either, like some scented candles I’ve had before.

The ones I had in the summer were infused with Rosemary and Neroli — they were absolutely lovely — but these ones I’ve been burning over the last couple of weeks are from their ‘Winter Garden’ range.

Gorgeous aromas of Spiced Orange, Winter Berries and Wild Fig have been perfuming our home since the start of advent.

The glass votives are printed with beautiful illustrations too, so when the candles are gone — and that make take some time as the standard 200g candle has a burning time of 50 hours — you’re left with some sweet little holders for tealights, flowers or you could even use them as water tumblers.

Smell is such a powerful sense isn’t it?

And smells are so evocative of places we’ve been and also certain times in our lives.

The smell of tarmac transports me back to being a child, one hot summer, when they were redoing the road past our house. Coconut reminds me of holidays and — in this case — these candles are the scent of Christmas.

Plus candlelight is so magical isn’t it?

I always think that people always look more beautiful in candlelight — as it’s so forgiving on the old wrinkles — plus twinkling lights and a warm glow are perfect for this time of year.

The tree is up, the presents are bought (nearly!) and the scent of Christmas is filling our little cottage.

  1. Oh these look gorgeous. I love the beautiful illustrations on the votive glasses. They are stunning. And as you say, it means that you can use them for so many things after the candles have gone. I love scented candles but really struggle to find good ones that don’t cost the earth. These look absolutely perfect and an essential to add Christmas scents to your house. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

    1. They’re really fabulous — the lovely illustrations on the votives have been designed by a local artist. I love the whole ethos behind the Beefayre brand too. Really ethical, which is lovely. Nice to think that these candles literally are’t costing the earth — both financially and ecologically.

  2. Oh I could almost smell the candles as I scrolled through your post. Love Christmas scents and with a fake tree this year (no pine smell), I think I should invest in a few of these candles. #HomeEtc

  3. Mmm… I can almost smell those lovely candles from here! This looks like a lovely brand, I’m a big fan of using natural products and the illustrations are a super touch. Here’s the thing though…. how do you get the candle wax off the votives if you want to use them for something else afterwards? I always struggle with that! Any tips? #HomeEtc

    1. They are SO lovely Michelle! Because they’re vegetable wax — rather than petroleum based — you can literally wash them with hot soapy water and the wax comes straight off!! You can’t put them in the dishwasher, as the pattern comes off the glass, but if you wash them by hand they come up a treat!! Have already got one from the summer that I’ve been using as a bud vase — thinking of an idea for these ones now ;)

  4. Oh these look gorgeous and even from your photos it looks like they burn so cleanly. A friend bought me a big (well known brand) candle which did smell lovely but as it burnt down left horrible dirty marks on the holder, not good! I’m much rather spend money on something that I knew was natural and oh so pretty! xx

  5. Oh it’s all about candlelight for me at this time of year, it is about the only thing that makes the dark, damp gloomy days bareable. I have different scents for different times of the year too, they are so evocative. The glass holders on yours are so pretty, you could plan a whole room make over around the designs and colours, they are just lovely xx

  6. These look absolutely divine! I totally agree that there is so much magical about candles and candle light and there’s nothing quite like the beautiful festive scents from wintry candles. Off to pay them a visit! X

  7. They look lovely and I’m sure they smell amazing too. I usually don’t light a candle that much because of the kids. But we do have scented Christmas candles.
