Home Etc #136

It’s amazing how many people I meet who feel overwhelmed when it comes to interior decor and design.

So many times I hear:

‘I’d love to do that but I’m not brave enough.’

Or —

‘I just don’t know where to start.’

When I was in Wales last week, at our friend’s holiday cottage, we spoke in depth about updating his properties.

The cottage we were staying in was lovely — very, very traditional — but with a couple of simple changes it could be elevated to another level.

I mentioned painting the dark beamed ceiling in a fresh white or adding an inky, dark feature wall. And when we began chatting about the possibilities, all of a sudden, I think it dawned on him that the changes we were talking about — although fairly simple — could make such a difference.

I love our Home Etc community as it’s full of people who are so brave with their home decor choices.

Just one example — and our favourite from last week’s linkers— is Natalie who blogs over at Mum In Brum.

She shared her gorgeous, grown-up, sitting room.

I really wish I’d seen before (as well as after) pictures, because ringing the changes must be staggering.

Says Nat of the old room:

‘It had green carpet, an old fashioned gas fireplace and dark wooden windows.

We wanted to create a light, modern grey living room with sleek furnishings and a relaxing, calm feel.’

And my goodness, they’ve absolutely nailed it.

Such a gorgeous space, I think you’ll agree.

I love the luxe finish; it has the look of a luxury show-home rather than a house that accommodates two small children!

Just fabulous.

Well done Natalie — your name is in the hat to win this month’s voucher from our fabulous sponsor Laura Ashley.

For anyone who’s like to share blog posts in this week’s linky, have a little read of our house rules.

1) Please include our lovely #HomeEtc badge at the bottom of your post.

The Twinkle Diaries

2) You may link up to two posts — new or old (sometimes the old posts are forgotten about, so please dust them down and show them off; we’d love to read them!) — but no more than two posts each week please.

3) Please be kind enough to comment on your HOSTS’ POST which will always be the first entry in the link up — plus a couple of others. Blog hops only work if you’re as generous with your comments as you are at sharing your posts.

Please be sure to tweet —@twinklediaries or @BooandMaddie — with the url to your post, using the hashtag #HomeEtc and Lins or I will retweet (sometimes both of us if you’re lucky)! ;)

One favourite post will be chosen each week. Then at the end of the month we’ll choose an overall winner. This lucky blogger will receive a £20 voucher from our fabulous sponsor!

Thanks so much for linking up all your fabulous posts! And don’t forget to tag any home related pics on Instagram with the #HomeEtc hashtag too.

Lots of love,

Caro x

PS — Remember next week your host is Lins.

That fireplace unit is stunning! I hope to join in again soon. Where does the time go? The weeks are flying past this year.
