It’s amazing how many people I meet who feel overwhelmed when it comes to interior decor and design.
So many times I hear:
‘I’d love to do that but I’m not brave enough.’
‘I just don’t know where to start.’
When I was in Wales last week, at our friend’s holiday cottage, we spoke in depth about updating his properties.
The cottage we were staying in was lovely — very, very traditional — but with a couple of simple changes it could be elevated to another level.
I mentioned painting the dark beamed ceiling in a fresh white or adding an inky, dark feature wall. And when we began chatting about the possibilities, all of a sudden, I think it dawned on him that the changes we were talking about — although fairly simple — could make such a difference.
I love our Home Etc community as it’s full of people who are so brave with their home decor choices.
Just one example — and our favourite from last week’s linkers— is Natalie who blogs over at Mum In Brum.
She shared her gorgeous, grown-up, sitting room.
I really wish I’d seen before (as well as after) pictures, because ringing the changes must be staggering.
Says Nat of the old room:
‘It had green carpet, an old fashioned gas fireplace and dark wooden windows.
We wanted to create a light, modern grey living room with sleek furnishings and a relaxing, calm feel.’
And my goodness, they’ve absolutely nailed it.
Such a gorgeous space, I think you’ll agree.
