Colour Your World | #8 Pantone Tangerine

Orange. I love it. And Pantone Tangerine is one of the most accurate representations of the colour orange.

Fresh, zingy and bright.

I thought about doing an interiors colour story,  to begin with,  but that would be too easy. There are so many beautiful — iconic — things for the home in this shade; Arne Jacobsen’s Swan chair, Orla Keily’s Giant Stem wallpaper, Robert’s Revival radios,  to name a few.

So I’ve assembled a little collection of wearable pieces, rather than home pieces.

Orange is a great colour to wear — it lifts my mood and makes me feel instantly happy — but too much of it, and you definitely run the risk of looking like an Oompa Loompa.  And that — unless you are going to a fancy dress party — is not a good look.

Anyway — I digress — back to our colour story.

Pantone tangerine is the 8th colour in the spring palette. Leatrice Eiseman — who’s the Executive Director of the Pantone® Colour Institute — says:

‘Tangerine is a juicy orange shade that is energising, yet not jarring to the eye.’

She goes on to say: ‘Tangerine is a versatile shade; it’s striking enough to stand on its own and adds vitality to a printed pattern. Good-natured and friendly, but with a tangy edge, this fun-loving colour invites a smile.’

I totally agree that it invites a smile! How can you be gloomy when you have a pop of orange in your life? Whilst the pieces I’ve chosen aren’t necessarily meant to be worn together,  a little flash here and there can really lift an outfit.

And if you’re not brave enough to wear tangerine clothing,  there are loads of lovely,  zesty accessories which give a little nod to this zingy shade.

I love the H blanket from Ebay particularly — it’s one of the best Hermes blanket dupes I’ve come across.

Using Pantone Tangerine in Interiors

Pantone Tangerine is a vibrant, warm, and energetic colour when used in an interior. It’s a stimulating shade that blends the youthful energy of bright orange with a subtle hint of red to create a deep, rich hue.

Here are some ways you can use Pantone Tangerine in your interiors.

Accent Wall

One of the most dramatic ways to use Pantone Tangerine is to paint an accent wall. This can help to create a focal point in the room and add a bold statement.

Furniture

If you’re not ready to commit to an entire wall, consider using this colour in your furniture. A tangerine-coloured sofa or armchair can be a vibrant centrepiece in a living room. If that’s too much, even a few cushions — or a throw — in this shade can liven up a space.

Kitchen and Dining

Orange shades can work beautifully in a kitchen or dining area. Tangerine is a warm, inviting colour that works well against the hard edges in a kitchen. Consider painting your kitchen island or dining chairs in this shade.

Accessorise with Pantone Tangerine

Another way to incorporate Pantone Tangerine is through accessories and decorative items. This could include anything from lampshades, rugs, vases, and artwork to smaller items like candles or books.

Pairing Pantone Tangerine with Other Colours

Pantone Tangerine pairs well with a variety of other colours.

It can be used with neutral tones like white, grey or beige to let the orange be the star of the show. But it also works well with deep blues or greens, creating a vibrant and energetic palette.

For a more monochromatic look, pair it with lighter shades of orange or coral.

As Pantone Tangerine is a bold colour, a little can go a long way.

Even small pops of this vibrant shade can liven up a space and add a fun, energetic vibe.
