Nursery bugs | Me and Mine January 2015

And like a flash, January is over for another year. It’s been a strange month. Full of germs. The nursery bugs have certainly got us in their grasp.

My boy has had a demon of a cold — lost his voice — and is still hacking and coughing more than three weeks later.

The Twinkles have picked up a new ailments from nursery each week; sniffles, rasping coughs, tummy bugs, eye and ear infections.

Bugged Out

It is well documented that children are susceptible to illness when they begin nursery but, until it happened, I really didn’t realise quite how much.

Perhaps it’s more noticeable because we have two?

I don’t know.

But, certainly, if one doesn’t catch it — the other definitely will.

They have been such healthy little boys since they were born but, since November, when they started at the pre-school they have caught all the nursery viruses going.

And in turn, so have we.

No Cake Due to Nursery Illness Shocker!

I celebrate my birthday in this month but due to a tummy bug there was no celebration this year.

So January — full of illness and buggy as hell — I shan’t be sorry to say goodbye to you!

This month’s Highs

• Collecting our new kitten (my Christmas present from Mr D!
• The boys (man shaped boy and the two tinies) enjoyed eating mama’s birthday cake.
• We are all loving ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea‘ at bedtime.
• The Twinkles seeing the snow for the very first time.
Poppa coming out of hospital and finally on the mend!
• Receiving the boys’ first nursery report — gold stars all round!

This Month’s Lows

• Mama didn’t get to eat birthday cake (too poorly).
• Lots of nasty bugs.

Here are this months pics; they’re a bit blurry in places but I love them.

Especially the one with Pearl (one of our chickens) :)

  1. A lovely set of photos. Sorry that you’ve all been ill in January and hope that you are feeling better now and February will be a better month. I love your boys’ colourful wellies :-)

    1. Thanks so much Louise — being ill is no fun at the best of times but being ill, with little people to look after, is utterly exhausting. Fingers crossed we will all get well soon and February will be better. Thanks for your comment! Caro x

  2. Aw look at their little all in one suits- so cute. And I love the chicken photobomb. x

    1. Thanks Katie! We were given the suits when they were 9 months old!! Passed on by a neighbour. I can’t believe they still fit, over a year on!! They’ve been so useful! X

  3. Oh I love these in the snow, the boys look adorable in their matching snow suits. And I definitely think you are owed another cake!!! Thanks so much for linking up with Me and Mine. x

  4. Ahh you have a gorgeous family. Lovely photos and looks like everyone was having a ball taking them. Look forward to seeing your february captures. #meandmine

    1. Thanks Jenny — I have so enjoyed taking these pics every month!! Sometimes we’ve been ill or not up for having our picture taken but I was so grateful, at the end of last year, to have a set of 12 pictures of the 4 of us! X

  5. Do you know it was exactly the same for us when my two started nursery, its like your whole immune system is attacked. I hope you all feel much better soon x

    1. Thanks so much lovely – it makes me feel better to know it’s not just us!! Bertie’s nose was running again earlier and my poor husband hasn’t even recovered from losing his voice and it looks like he’s coming down with yet another cold!! Arrgh. So sick of being sick. Roll on warmer weather!! X

  6. These are really lovely photos! My family had chickens when I was growing up, love how one joined the photo session. Love Me and Mine and getting photos of family.

    1. Thanks so much for your lovely comment Abzi! I’m so happy the boys are growing up in an environment that lends itself to keeping hens! They love them — call them ‘chichins’ though, bless!! X

  7. Really lovely photographs of your family. Hope your little ones enjoyed the snow, we’ve yet to have much to play in here in the Midlands #meandmine

    1. Thanks Emma! It was a little bit mixed — it’s the first time they’ve seen it and they didn’t quite know what to make of it!! :) We’re in East midlands and have only had a couple of days worth — I am hoping for a bit more so I can take the boys out on a sledge!! X

  8. Oh what BRILLIANT pictures! It’s a shame that they’re from this side of Christmas else you could have made them into a perfect card. I’m terribly jealous of you for your chickens. I’d love to have chickens for the boys.

    1. Thanks Amber! I waited a long, long time to have hens — am so happy the boys get to grow up in a place that allows us to have them. Our old garden wasn’t big enough — it’s lovely that we have the space to keep them now! Fresh eggs is a lovely treat! Shame Bertie’s allergic to them :) X
