A brand new year means another 12 months of birthdays ahead — it was my godson’s birthday yesterday, funnily enough —time to stock up the card drawer! So what are the best birthday cards for children, when there is so much choice available? Cardooo cards. Without question.
The greetings card industry is huge.
As I have designed greetings cards myself (and still sell a small range of them on Not On The High Street) I can say this with some conviction. One year, I went to a big show called Top Drawer to check out the competition and ended up feeling totally and utterly overwhelmed by just how many companies were out there, trying to get a slice of the action.
What do you do to stand out? How can you make your cards shine amongst all of the others on the market?
Do something a little bit different, that’s what.
And that’s exactly what the team at Cardooo Cards have done.
What are Cardooo Cards?
Their range of childrens’ greetings cards definitely offer something a little bit different. Their secret is, they’re not just a card, they’re more like a comic — or a little activity pack.
Whilst traditional cards are opened, read and sit on a mantlepiece for a week (if they’re lucky!) the Cardooo cards will give hours of amusement (well after the birthday cake has been eaten and the other cards have been sent off to be recycled).
Tailored to the age group — or gender — of the child, not only do they offer a traditional birthday greeting, they also provide entertainment, in the form of colouring, stories, puzzles and — my boys’ absolute favourite — stickers!
Why do we love them?
They’re such a fantastic concept and a selection of their age range cards — suitable for boys and girls aged 4-7, plus non age-specific dinosaur and fairy cards — are now being stocked at ASDA stores across the UK and in Ireland, priced at just £3.
That’s less than a standard kids comic; which don’t ever seem to keep my kids amused for longer than it takes to rip the plastic tat off the front of them.
So cost-wise, the Cardooo cards are a bargain.
Even more of a bargain when I consider that these cards kept my boys happy for a whole afternoon over the Christmas holidays!! You can’t put a price on that, to be honest ;)
More Than Just a Card
There’s nothing they like better than sticking and colouring — so I think they’d be a great thing to put away for a rainy day or to take on a plain or train, to keep little one’s entertained during a journey.
These little cards are a genius idea. I’m going to buy a stack of them for my emergency card drawer; safe in the knowledge that — whoever receives one — will be delighted.
But not quite as delighted as their parents, who’ll be virtually high-fiving me for giving them a peaceful afternoon, whilst little Johnny is entertained by his Cardooo birthday card!
These cards are so fab that I thought they warranted a little film. So, as well as the still shots, you can really see what they’re all about.
