95 weeks and 2 days | Going self hosted

Nearing the end of last year, I’d decided that — as my blog was 2 years old and I was in no hurry to stop writing— I was going to pay it a bit more attention and give it a makeover. I was finally  ta-daaah ‘going self hosted’!

I’d decided to move on from a free WordPress blog to a self-hosted site… which was pretty easy to arrange as the lovely guys at IFDNRG, who host my work websites, have agreed to host my new blog too. I told then which domain name I wanted and hey presto — up and running before I knew it.

The look and feel was a slightly different matter! Initially, I was going to keep the same theme as before but in light of a new year (once a designer, always a designer) I concluded that it was time for a brand new look!

Out with the old!

After a lot bit of trial and error and swearing, I finally managed to work out how to use the back-end of my new theme! A lot of faffing ensued but FINALLY I have a blog that I’m happy with the look of! *high five to that*

Hopefully this going self hosted and the new look for my blog will inspire me to write more (or as much as I can with a marriage, twins, a home and a business to keep on top of!). It almost feels like having a brand new diary for 2015!

A lovely fresh feel to welcome in the new year.

Bring it on.

    1. Thanks ever so much Alana! And don’t be scared!! I would wholeheartedly recommend it! Particularly if you’re going to use someone like the guys at IFDNRG who organised the purchase of my new domain name and the hosting and transfer etc…

All I’ve done is upload a new blog theme and tinker about with the look and feel of it.

To be honest, the back end of self-hosted WP looks exactly the same as the free version, so not so scary! The only big difference is the fact you can add lots of lovely (free) plug-ins and make your blog look a bit more how you’d like it to be.

If you do it, and get stuck at all, just let me know! Will be happy to help if I’m able to!

    1. Thanks darling — that’s so kind of you!! The thought didn’t cross my mind for ages but when I hit the 2 year mark I figured I wasn’t going to stop writing anytime soon. So glad I’ve done it now! :) X

  1. What a lovely way to start the new year. You are right, it is a clear page in a diary. A fresh start. I love your new design. It is so pretty, fresh and perfect for your blog. Thanks for linking up to #SundaysStars. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
