114 weeks and 2 days | Getting to know me | A vlog

A couple of weeks ago I did my first vlog (video blog for those of you not up to date with this new social media lingo).

Not sure it was something I felt entirely comfortable with but — lo and behold — I’ve just done another one!

My friend Aby has teamed up with the lovely Amy, who blogs at Mr and Mrs T Plus Three, and they’ve just started a ‘vlog’ linky. Basically it’s a chance to join in each month and answer some simple questions —in the form of moving pictures  — rather than just typing the answers out.

This month’s topic is ‘Getting To Know Me’.

Here are the questions:

  1. Introduce yourself, tell us a bit about your family
  2. Tell us the story behind your blog name?
  3. How long have you been blogging/vlogging for?
  4. Why do you like vlogging?
  5. How regularly do you vlog?
  6. What’s a fav vlog you’ve made so far and why?
  7. What do you use to film your vlogs?
  8. How much effort goes into filming and editing each vlog?
  9. Do you have a favourite vlogger?
  10. What would be your dream brand collaboration?
  11. If you could only blog OR vlog from now on, which would you chose?
  12. Tell us a funny story about you!

I still find the the ‘vlogging’ idea a really strange one and have no idea why anybody would want to watch me babbling away for a minute — let alone 12! But hey.

It’s a weird old concept isn’t it?

That said, I quite enjoyed watching this back. Apologies in advance for my ‘funny story’. I did ask Dickie whether I should have kept it in but as he said, ‘it was almost 20 years ago and everyone has a Bridget Jones moment in their lives don’t they?’.

Ahem. *blushing* So here it is.

NB: I just want to add something to answer 8.

Effort for filming and editing this little film was minimal — uploading to YouTube on the other hand?? 2 days.

2 days? Really.

Now I know we live in the countryside but you’d expect upload speeds to be a little quicker in this day and age.  Perhaps if I start next month’s Vlog Stars offering now, I *might* just have it uploaded in time.

Please share, if you like this!

  1. Use Handbrake my love, it is a free download that compresses your videos and makes it much quicker to upload them :) I love your vlog, always fabulous to know more about you, even if you do go out with dirty pants handing out of your trousers! Thanks for joining in with #VlogStars :) xxxx

  2. Way to go on the vlogging adventures and you are doing great. I hate when it takes forever to upload to youtube it can be so frustrating. 2 days bless you Thanks for linking up to Share With Me I hope you are enjoying my blog hop and thanks for all the linky support! #sharewithme

  3. Ha ha HA! How on earth am I going to think of a funny story to top that?!?!?!
You are so natural, loving these vlogs mrs x

  4. Hard to believe it’s only your 2nd vlog; you look like a natural at it. I agree that it’s quicker to get so much down talking about it than writing about it; hopefully the editing time will reduce as you do more of it. Imagine all the lovely times your children and theirs will have watching your vlogs in years to come :-).

I’m looking forward in some way to trying out vlogging but I’m not keen on sitting down and just talking into the camera, so we’ll have to see how that goes. :-). All the best with your future vlogs :-) #aNoviceMumCommentLuv

    1. HA! That means a lot thanks SO much!! :)

It’s SUCh a weird thing isn’t it??! I’m still not sure I like — either doing it or — watching myself — but I totally agree, they’ll be fantastic for the future, when I’m old and grey. It will be lovely for the boys to watch when they’re grown up — to see how their mama used to be. Honestly, try it — you may surprise yourself! X

  5. Can’t stop laughing, Caro! Nice to hear your real voice and not the one that I created while reading your blog. As an inveterate American I actually looked up some of the words that you used. Kind of weird that we speak totally different versions of the same language.

I will tell you that Hectic-Grandson watched the entire VLOG with great concentration. He was laughing and clapping at your concluding story…so apparently you have one (very young) fan. LOL

Make it a great day and keep up the great work with #TwinklyTuesday. I love the linky and try REALLY HARD to comment on a few posts every week. I’m getting better at fitting in the time to read and comment.

    1. Haha!! Thanks so much for your lovely comment Jeff — this really made me laugh :) Our best friends are American and we always say that England and America are two countries separated by a common language!! So happy you liked the ‘vlog’! Still not entirely sure that vlogging is for me although I’m very chuffed to learn I have a little tiny fan! :) X

  6. vlogging does not come naturally to me at all! lol ive only done two and the first i was slightly tipsy! you seem pretty natural though! x

  7. Well I think that was a pretty amazing second go at a vlog! I would find it far too embarrassing to have a go myself so I respect you for doing it. It was also really interesting to get to know a bit about you! I will look out for your third one next month. #TwinklyTuesday

  8. Fantastic vlog…and fantastic house! Watching your vlog is like when I watch an episode of Topsy & Tim (although the latter is under toddler duress) – I’m listening to the storyline but also I’m looking at the décor.
When are you going to do the Twinkle Diaries cribs episode?!
You do come across really well on camera, a real natural #twinklytuesday

    1. Haha! THIS made me laugh!! Just read your comment out to my boy — made us both laugh — particularly the ‘Topsy and Tim’ reference!! Your comment has made my day — thanks so much lovely xx

  9. I haven’t quite got in to the whole vlogging thing – so you’re officially the first vlog I’ve watched! You look great! Very natural! And your house sounds divine! #twinklytuesday

  10. Lovely to see you Caro! Well done you! I’m toying with the idea myself now sans makeup, just for a laugh ;) But of course I’d take vlogging very seriously! #twinklytuesday

  11. You mean to tell me that not everyone has put put on their clothes from the night before and their “undies” from that same night before fell out the bottom of the pant leg? Does everyone live under a rock? Great vlogging! I found myself tuned in until the end which means that’s a good vlog because it is hard for me to tune into anything for more then 30 seconds. #TwinklyTuesday

    1. Haha!! Ohmygoodness — SO embarrassing Trista!! I can’t actually believe I left that in!! Although, as you say, I can’t believe no-one else has done that (perhaps they wouldn’t share it on the world wide web though)?! Haha! Thanks so much for staying tuned in — that makes it all worthwhile x

  12. I am always amazed at people who do vlogs because I know I could just never do one (unless maybe I’d had a few drinks for courage?!) I love the sound of the wonky cottage, I would SO love to live in wonky cottage some day!!

    1. If you’d have asked me 6 months ago whether I would be baring my soul on a ‘vlog’ I would have run in the opposite direction! I really never thought I’d be doing this either, so never say never!! ;)

  13. Love this! I took over coordinating HDYDI just about the same time you started blogging (although I’d been blogging for nearly 7 years at that point).

Honestly, I think vlogging would take much longer than typing. I type FAR faster than I speak.

Thanks for another wonderful #TwinklyTuesday and for all your support.

  14. Great Vlog! You’re a braver woman than I! Maybe one day. Watch this space hahaha ;-)

  15. So not a thatched roof then, darn…I was hoping there when I heard cottage in the country! :p haha
Love the Vlog, you do well! :D
I don’t really do “vlog” as I tend to not be in the picture in my videos. haha

    1. It does have a thatch actually! The tin was put over the top, in the war, to stop the bombs setting fire to it! The thatch is still underneath — but would need replacing now. We haven’t got 30K to spend on the roof so are really happy to leave the tin on! ;)
Thanks so much BTW — still not sure ‘vlogging’ is my thing but thank you :)

    1. Hahaha! Oh lord — I’m still not sure I should have shared that!!!! I’ve thought of lots more ‘funny’ stories since filming that vlog that wouldn’t have put me in such a bad light!! ;) X

  16. Well lady, for a newbie vlogger you’re pretty damn fab in front of the camera! You may have even just inspired me to dip my toes in.! You’re old lady house sounds like my dream home. #twinklyTuesdays

  17. Well Caro, that was highly entertaining, especially the story at the end :)
The only other person I know who says wally is my dad, so you are in good company!
