A Beautiful Home | Dreamcatchers at St Mawes Retreats

If you were following my Instagram or Facebook page over the last week or so you’d see that we’d made the journey down to Cornwall, to celebrate our wedding anniversary at St Mawes Retreats. St Mawes is in one of the most beautiful parts of the country and Dreamcatchers is, arguably, one of the most beautiful houses too. The winding little lanes leading up to the front gate are so narrow, that we mistook the road that Dreamcatchers sits on for a pathway at first. White rendered walls screen the property — which nestles on a hillside overlooking the estuary — and the unassuming exterior doesn’t give anything away at all. Zig zag down a meandering path to the front door, which still gives no clue to what’s inside. But put the key in the lock and push it open and you’re greeted by the most spectacular view; both outside the windows and inside the house. For an interiors addict, like me, Dreamcatchers is a joy. A white glass topped Calligaris table, surrounded by Kartell Ghost Chairs. Quirky, handmade artwork dotted around the walls and a La Volières bird cage lamp (that I’ve coveted for years) perched happily on a Conran side table. The attention to detail is fabulous. The house… Read More

Home Etc #80

Welcome to the last Home Etc of 2016! My co-host Jess — mummy of boy girl twins — and I have decided to wrap it up for Christmas (no pun intended) and give ourselves a little break until the second week of January. The last couple of  weeks have been a little quiet; everyone’s been knuckling down for the festive season and there have been fewer linkers — which is to be expected at this time of year — but not so good for the lack of comments on the lovely blogs that have linked up. Come on guys — share the love! If you add your link, please do pop along to see what some of your fellow bloggers have been up to. Anyway, that aside, Jess and I looking towards January with much anticipation. There are going to be changes to the Home Etc format; we’ll be welcoming two more hosts (more of that to come!) and hopefully growing our little community even more. But back to last week. Home Etc Favourites Favourite posts were from Caroline who blogs at Diary of a Mum of 3. She and her family have recently bought a house and have been getting stuck in to renovating it. We’ve really… Read More

Home Etc #79

It’s feeling decidedly festive this week! I was browsing through the Home Etc hashtag on Instagram last night and there are some really gorgeous shots on there, with a decidedly Christmassy flavour. I’m definitely feeling that sparkly season is now well underway; particularly after being treated to the HomeSense Christmas bloggers party last week. theordinarylovely / lazydaisyjones / georgia_coote / lifeasourlittlefamily / lizzie_woodman  /acupfullofglitter / letstalkmommy /aaamylouxo  /three_sons_later It’s so lovely to see that folk are using the #HomeEtc hashtag on Instagram! If ever you post  anything home, interiors, DIY, craft & garden related please do join in – we love seeing your pictures — and it’s a really fantastic way of keeping up to date with the Home Etc community. You don’t even have to have a blog to get involved! Home Etc Favourites Favourite posts from last week’s Home Etc came from Gemma at Two Little Misters and Rachel who blogs over at the Ordinary Lovely. Gemma shared the most fabulous DIY Christmas gift idea for under a tenner. A really sweet idea comprising of a box of 12 little photographs plus all the other components you need to create a mini photo bunting kit. Such a lovely idea and a sure fire hit (that’s if you can bear to be parted with it!). Our second favourite was from Rachel.… Read More

Home Etc #78

Last week was so busy — full to the brim of new and lovely products for me to share with my Home Etc community — in the form of press days! I went to Laura Ashley a couple of weeks’ ago but on Thursday and Friday of last week was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of Joules, Primark and Habitat’s spring and summer ranges for 2017. We had a quieter week with people linking up, I think everyone’s gearing up to Christmas at the mo, but here are a couple of favourites. Home Etc Favourites First comes from lovely Kara who blogs at Innocent Charms Chats. She shared the most fabulous idea for a notice board. Super-simple to make and really stylish; I love the copper wire background! Pop over and have a read if you missed it the first time round. Such a great idea, I shall definitely be having a go at making one for my she-shed! Another favourite came from Nicky at Not Just The 3 Of Us. She showed us her fabulous hall and stairway makeover. I love the fresh white woodwork against the dark striped carpet runner — fabulous. Pop over to Nicky’s blog to see more… Read More

When I was at school, Wednesday was one of my favourite days as we had art lessons in the afternoon! Nowadays Wednesday is my favourite weekday, as I host Home Etc with my friend Jess! Home Etc is a weekly link up for bloggers who have written posts that include interiors (wish lists, room tours or DIY), garden or allotment ideas, plus crafting or up-cycling. HomeEtc Favourites Last week’s favourite came from Becky at Pinks Charming and Alex from Bump to Baby. Becky had been lucky enough to do an online flower arranging course and was showing off her new found skills. It’s such a lovely thing to learn how to do. I was given the opportunity to create a hand tied bouquet at the Jane Packer studio, earlier in the year and it’s something that I’ll never forget! So beautiful and much cheaper than buying similar arrangements from a florist! Secondly, Alex showed us her gorgeous home and gave great tips on how to make the most of a small bathroom. Congratulations to both of you — you’re both now in the running to win this month’s voucher from our generous sponsor. Thanks so much everyone, for linking in, we love seeing what you’ve been up to!… Read More

Well, we’ve broken the back of the working week folks! It’s Wednesday again (phew) — Monday and Tuesday are always a bit of a challenge for me so I’m always delighted to see Wednesday — plus it’s Home Etc* day too :) *{Home Etc is a weekly link up for bloggers who have written posts that include interiors (wish lists, room tours or DIY), garden or allotment ideas, plus crafting or up-cycling.} If you’re a fan of all things ‘home and garden’ and have a post that you’d like to share, my good friend Jess and I would love you to come and link up. Home Etc Favourites Favourite posts from last week came from Julia who blogs at Rainbeaubelle. She wrote about fifty shades of grey. Not the book or the film but the HUGE choice of grey paint available these days. I absolutely love her new siting room. Such a restful grey and I love the mid-century feel of the furniture. Another favourite was written by Natalie who blogs at Mum In Brum. She wrote about FOMO, sleep after children and her new Leesa mattress. We have a Leesa mattress ourselves — a year on it’s still SO comfy! Would highly recommend them. Pop and… Read More

Morning all! Happy November — and happy Home Etc day. {Home Etc is a weekly link up for bloggers who have written posts that include interiors (wish lists, room tours or DIY), garden or allotment ideas, plus crafting or up-cycling.} If you’re a fan of all things ‘home and garden’ and have a post that you’d like to share, my good friend Jess and I would love you to come and link up. Home Etc Favourites Favourite posts from last week came from Molly and The Princess. She shared her gorgeous table from Cox & Cox. Beautifully simple and seasonally styled, with autumnal foliage and the loveliest candle holders. And another favourite came from Caroline who blogs at Diary of a Mum of 3, who showed off her new office pegboard. A definite blogger’s favourite, my own pegboard has been used for all sorts of things! Last Christmas it was an advent calendar. Well done to both of you! Your names are in the hat to win a voucher from our fabulous sponsor — Laura Ashley — which will be announced in 5 week’s time! This month’s winner… Because we loved her Instagram posts so much, Jess and I unanimously agreed that our overall winner for this month should be… Read More

Home Etc #74

Happy Wednesday folks! Welcome to this week’s Home Etc For anyone stopping by for the first time, Home Etc is a weekly link up for bloggers who have written posts that include interiors (wish lists, room tours or DIY), garden or allotment ideas, plus crafting or up-cycling. If you’re a fan of all things ‘home and garden’ and have a post that you’d like to share, my good friend Jess and I would love you to come and link up. Home Etc Favourites I loved Gemma’s (Hello It’s Gemma) fabulous foraged items. I’m a huge fan of displaying ‘found’ treasures in bell-jars, so this post was right up my street. Our home, too, is full of weird bits and pieces that we’ve collected; a deer skull and antlers on the wall, a vase full of feathers in our bathroom. It’s lovely to see someone else doing the same. Another favourite from last week came from Jane at the blog Maflingo. She shared her absolutely swoon-worthy new kitchen. I’ve said a gazillion and one times how much I loathe our inherited and antiquated kitchen so seeing something as lovely as this fills me with both envy and joy in equal measures. I love the zingy… Read More
